A Summary of the Past

My journey of trying to conceive started at the time my dh and I got married. We decided that we wanted to wait until I at least finished my bachelor's degree so right after we were married I went on BCP. After 9 months, we decided that we were ready to start trying so I went off of BCP. We though that it was going to take just a few months. After trying for 7 months I decided to start doing BBT. The next month dh and I went to the family doctor for a check up and she decided to refer me to this fertility specialist here. She told me that he is renowned around the USA, has done a lot of research in infertility and also teaches at Texas Tech Medical School. She said that he has won numerous awards for his commitment and research to finding new and better methods in infertility treatments. She said that she went to him and he had her pregnant in no time. That same day I called Dr. Nobel's office but the quickest they could get me in was in June - a very long 4 month wait! When we met with him for the first time he ordered so many tests, but he told us that he wanted to make sure that everything was inline before we proceeded because why waste money on treatments if there is some underlying issue that wouldn't allow conception in the first place. For the next 6 months I was a walking human laboratory experiment. I had a total of 15 tubes of blood taken, 2 pee samples, a breast ultrasound, 4 T/V ultrasounds, an HSG, a SHG, and surgery to remove polyps that were growing in my uterus. The results of all of this was that my progesterone was low, my insulin was normal but on the high side of normal, one of my tubes was blocked but was reopened, and that I had 4 polyps removed. In November I started taking Metformin to try to regulate my hormones. As soon as I was released from my surgery we started treatments. My first round of treatments started on November 17th 2007. I took Letrozole 5 mg for CD 3-7. Then every other day from CD 3 I did a 75 IU injection of Menopur (5 total). At the first U/S the follicles were growing but were not mature so we had to go back for a second U/S. The second U/S revealed a dominate follicle on the right ovary at 19mm and 2 smaller immature follicles on the left ovary at 14 mm each. As well, it revealed that the uterine lining was a 9 and was considered a triple stripe the best for implantation and pregnancy. On November 29th 2007 we did a Novarel HCG Trigger injection of 10,000 IUs at 5 pm. I then ovulated on December 1st around 3pm. That round of treatments resulted in a BFN. The next cycle my doctor was out of the country for Christmas holiday so we were forced to take a break after just getting started. The next round of treatments started on January 17th 2008. We did Letrozole 5 mg on CD 4-8 and then Menopur 75 IU injections during CD6-12 (5 total). We had the first U/S on January 29th that showed a dominate mature follicle on the right side measuring 21 mm and a very small immature follicle on the left at 8 mm. The uterine lining was also 8mm. Since the follicle was mature we triggered with Novarel 10,000 IUs on January 29th at 11pm. I then ovulated on January 30th around 6pm and this time we added an IUI on January 31st at 8:30 am. That cycle ended in a BFN. We are now on our third round of treatments. This time we started on February 18th 2008. I took Letrozole 5 mg CD 4-8 and 7 Menopur 75 IU injections on CD 5-14. The first U/S on February 28th showed a uterine lining of 7 mm and 4 growing good sized follicles 2 on the right measuring 16 mm and 14 mm and 2 on the left side measuring 14mm and 13mm, since non of them were mature yet I did the 6th injection and went back 2 days later for another U/S. The second U/S on March 1st revealed a uterine lining of 8mm and a dominate follicle on each ovary. The right measuring 16 mm and the left measuring 18mm. I was told to do the 7th and final injection of Menopur and then to trigger the next day. On March 2nd at 11pm we did a Novarel Trigger of 10,000 IU's and will go in on March 4th for our second IUI. Who knows how this one will turn out, hopefully it will be a BFP! Here's to dreaming big...
