Nasif's Birth

Birth Story:

Friday I went in for a regular apt. because of my blood pressure being high. They checked weight, sugar, and urine all were excellent. They had a hard time hearing my blood pressure so they had to do it a couple of times. Once they finally got it, it was high again. They did a NST and he didn't move much but ctx and heart rate looked great. I met with the dr and she tried to get the pressure but also she had a hard time. She said since it was Friday she couldn't just let me go home with it like that. So, she did a quick check and everything was the same. Then she gave me orders to go to the hospital to be monitored for awhile.

We went to the hospital and got checked in they set me up and were checking my pressure every 15 minutes. One time it would be high the next low and then back to high and back to low. They checked my blood and it was okay but in my urine I was starting to spill protein. The dr on call told me that if they got a few low in a row then I could go home. Well it never happened so he wanted to keep me overnight and induce me in the morning. At exactly 2:50 my water broke on its own. It was like in the movies and kind of funny. I first thought that the baby just gave me a good kick but then I was thinking no I heard it. I stood up and a huge gush just went everywhere. After waiting for someone to come back to check on me I told them, they checked and sure enough it was my waters. They took me and rushed me over to L&D. They checked me and I was 4 cm and 80%. In an hour I was 5cm and 90%. After that point I decided to ask for an epi. They told me that I had to get some IV and some mag sulfate first because of the blood pressure. As soon as I had the epi and most of the mag sulfate was done I started feeling faint. Just like that the nurse couldn't find the baby's heartbeat on the monitor so they decided to try an internal monitor. They got it on but the baby was quickly going up instead of descending. Then they saw that with each contraction his heart rate was dropping lower and lower. (They didn't really tell me any of this until after wards because of how I was feeling at the time.) The dr all of a sudden announced that we have to go for an emergency c now stat. The dr grabbed my husband and said come with us and the nurses started pushing me out the door. They got me there started prepping and then my husband came in and sat beside me. They finally got baby out and found that somewhere around the time of the mag sulfate and the epi he got his cord wrapped around his neck and that's why he was going back up. As soon as he was out they took him and dh. It took another hour to get me back together and then i had to spend another hour in recovery. I was trying to push myself to get out to see him because they said minimum 30 minutes but there was only one nurse so it took a lot longer. While I was there though they called another c too.

I finally got to see baby at 8 pm and dh came in later.

Nasif was born at 5:38 pm weighing exactly 7lbs and measuring 21 1/2 inches. He had a full head of black hair. He got an apgar of 9.

We haven't had too many problems breastfeeding except when he gets excited then he screams and won't latch.

The first day I wasn't able to get out of bed. They told me they wanted me to get out as soon as possible and walk though but the pain was too much. The next day they tried to get me out and go for a shower but as soon as they got me in the shower I fainted so they didn't let me out the rest of the day. Late Sunday they stopped the mag sulfate and started giving me a different pain med and then things were much better. Less dizziness, less nausea, better pain management, etc. Sunday night I was able to have my catheter out and after a dose of pain meds I was out walking around. Today was the same. I am still expelling too much from my abdomen so I still have the JP drain. On Thursday I go to get my staples out, my JP drain removed, and to check the bp again.

Now that I am home I have some pain meds but they are not really helping. I have Motrin to take every 8 hours scheduled for the first week. They also gave me a narcotic but it isn't relieving the pain. It makes me pass out, sleep deeply, and have weird vivid dreams. Then when it is wearing off all I do is cry. (Apparently I would not make a good drug addict.) I also have new bp meds to take everyday.

I just copied and pasted... I am going to add more later...
